about THE ZONE

The Zone Youth Project was set up in September 2022 for 11 to 18 year olds. We aim to provide a safe, accessible place for young people in our rural community to meet and socialise in an informal setting.

There are opportunities to develop life skills, build confidence, gain qualifications, be part of a youth committee or just hang out with friends. The Zone is not exclusively for Wigmore residents or pupils of Wigmore school, we welcome anyone from the surrounding villages. Some even travel across the border!

Our youth community currently has 14 members ranging in age from 11 to 15 years old.

They have weekly meetings to discuss Zone matters, job roles within the community centre, village developments etc. The committee also discusses stock levels within the tuck shop which they run from the Mortimer Café.

Anyone who volunteers in the café must have a current food hygiene certificate for which the Wigmore Village Community Centre provides training and payment. The current job roles are:

  • Cook
  • Server
  • Pot wash
  • Manager
  • Waiter/waitress
  • Administration
  • Finance
  • Activities coordinator
